Our history

Our park’s journey began in 1960 when Neil and Mabel Studholme transformed part of their farm into the charming “Hawthenden Motels.” Over the years, the park grew alongside the Wānaka community.

By the late ‘60s, two motels were built, and local landmarks like Treble Cone Ski Field, Puzzling World, and Rippon Vineyard – one of Central Otago’s first commercial vineyards – became local favourites.

In 1977, the Scaife family expanded the park with new units and beautiful gardens, and in 1996, the Hutchinson Family started at the park. By 2000, the holiday park was developed with 42 sites and the park was renamed Aspiring Holiday Park, reflecting its new direction.

In 2014, the Kendrick Family took over the reigns and started on a 10 year upgrade of the units and facilities. This continues the park’s legacy of great hospitality with modern updates, ensuring it remains a warm and welcoming place for guests to enjoy all that Wānaka has to offer, no matter the season.

This has to be one of the best parks I have ever stayed in (we had a powered site for a van) . There was plenty of space for each site. The entire place was immaculately clean and well maintained. The communal kitchen area and the bathrooms were exceptional. I was unsure if this was going to be too far out of town however, it’s a few minute drive down the road.

We are in love with this holiday park and the little town of Wanaka. We came to a powered site and made use of the facilities to cook and use the laundry. Everything is super clean and organized. The bathrooms are very comfortable and the shower has very good pressure, plus the bathrooms are air-conditioned. There is also the option to reserve a private jacuzzi and sauna. This place for me is a 10/10. The girl at the reception is super attentive and informed us of trekking routes that we didn't know about.

This is the greatest tourist park that we have ever had the pleasure of staying at (and we have stayed at plenty)! The park is well presented and the bathrooms rival a 5 star hotel! The grounds are immaculate and the playground has the best view of any playground that we've ever seen! The park is on the fringe of town, but the distance is totally worth it. It's a quick walk, bike ride or Wana Taxi from the centre of Wanaka. Can't wait to stay there again.

We recently stayed here for 3 nights in a campervan. The reception team were very friendly and accomodating even though we didn’t have a booking. The park is beautifully maintained with stunning views. The BBQ area was very clean and well equipped. The bathrooms & laundry were really clean and warm. The showers were lovely & hot. Easily the nicest park we have stayed at on the South Island!
